Ummm…today has really been about burning things up.
First, I was burning things up when I went to make lunch. I decided to grill some lamb that I bought last night. After giving it a little rub down with brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, and pepper, I fired up the grill. I scraped the grill first, but apparently that wasn’t sufficient. When I went outside to check on it, the grill — and the lamb — was flaming!
After getting things under control and removing the charred bits of BBQ that were causing the fire, I went back inside to tend to my vegetables. I had some eggplant and zucchini roasting and was planning to saute mushrooms, Swiss chard, and kale. I prepped the greens and then went back to check on the grill. As I approached, I could see smoke escaping. When I opened the lid, there was double the amount of flames!
I tried my best to snuff them out. Luckily the lamb was still looking OK; I figured I’d just consider it “flame broiled.” I turned the flames way down and went back to saute the veggies. When everything was finally coming together, I took the eggplant from the oven and brought the lamb in. I suppose I was a bit flustered; as I set the lamb down to start cutting it, I burned my arm on the dish I had roasted the veggies in. I found myself screaming, “Fuck!!!!” for the third time in this lunch endeavor.
I have to say, I think three F-bombs and nearly calling 911 is the magic formula because the lunch was off the hook.

I’ve never grilled lamb before but it was awesome. It tasted like a juicy steak, but it was super lean. So satisfying. I suppose the scar forming on my arm is worth it.
After lunch, I decided to get my cardio out of the way. I really wanted to go do my cardio at Target, but I decided I’d do something. I was pretty stiff from all my Core Fusion and pilates in the past few days, but it was so nice outside, I figured I’d lace up the white-girl shoes and go for a run.
The run was not great. I’d actually consider it more of a “plod.” I think every muscle group is sore right now! I got through 25 minutes during which I felt like Frankenstein climbing molasses-covered hills. I had planned to do an extra day of legs and booty but I realized that that’s the last thing I needed. I probably could have done without the run too but I’m hoping it helps me feel less stiff.
Besides burning some cals, I also burned up my skin! Well, not exactly, but I did come back with really lame tan lines. (Sports bra lines and tank top lines — so sexy.) I forgot that it’s warm and sunny enough now for me to get a tan in ten minutes! More sunscreen next time.
I was thoroughly down after my sad, Zombie run, so I decided I had earned a trip to Target! And, you guys…I’m pretty sure the secret to not spending $100 is to go to Target when you’ve just kicked your own ass in a workout. I was too tired and sore to browse for more than what I had even gone for! I mean, that’s crazy. I left only spending $23 and I know it was because I was too wiped out from exercising to get excited about anything. This might be a really good system of motivation for both working out and spending less money at Target!
All right, I’m off to work on a few things; seriously, I’m just dying to call it a night and marry this stack of new magazines. What’s on everyone’s agenda tonight? Food? Gymming? Target cardio?
Hopefully no fire disasters like mine! Have a good night!

Hi Rachel,
I am a fan of Shedding It because you keep it real. I can relate to your food/exercise mentality and love the humor of the blog. I read your (somewhat) recent post on coconut oil. Do you know the difference between coconut oil and coconut butter? I saw both at the grocery store and they looked very similar. Thanks.
My agenda tonight is eating dinner while attending a live chat session for my online class. yuck!! I get to miss happy hour for this….at least less calories consumed
Hey Olga! Thanks for the comment!! So, from everything I’ve learned about this recently, the difference is that coconut butter has a bit of the coconut meat in it, so it’s a little heavier. Everything I’ve been reading (including the book “Eat Fat Lose Fat” which is basically an entire diet based on coconut) recommends the oil, so that’s why I’m sticking with that. But as far as I know, the butter still has many benefits!
I have Tutoring Zone tonight… for 3 hours… the topic: computer science. I’m all about peace of mind tonight;)
Your lunchtime creations really inspire me. I fired up the grill last week for lunch but that was only because the power was out!
A walk with a bounce is still a run, don’t be so hard on yourself.
Looking forward to a new episode of Cougar Town tonight, are you watching it?
Keri — I love Modern Family and started watching Cougar Town right after when it started but it’s a little too much for me. Busy Phillips’ character drives me crazy!
I went to kick boxing, which kicked my butt after taking 2 weeks off. Then I came home and made a yummy dinner. I think you’d like it, all i did was roast asparagus and zucchini, cut them up, and add them to whole wheat rotini and fresh tomatoes. For the sauce I grated lemon peel, lemon juice, alittle olive oil, and salt&pepper and added them to the pasta, finally topped with parmesan cheese. SO GOOD, thought i’d share
Mmmm Carla that does sound SO good! I need to get some asparagus asap, it’s such a good spring veggie!!
Currently, Modern Family
then reading some more of Wally Lamb’s latest. My training run was a success (minus the iPod dying halfway through) so I believe I deserve a lazy night.
I’ll have to try your Target technique, last time I went during my lunch break I picked up PS I Love You and $1 sunflower pots…
This is my first time on this blog. Just wondering if this is a safe place for a man to come or not?
Define “safe place”…
I think it is!
Plans for tonight? Run + cleaning house. What did I do? Finish half of my Cinco de Mayo Old Chicago mini tour and shoot tequila. Oops.
.-= Manon´s last blog ..Tuesday makes me Tingle…… =-.
hahs…oooops! It does make cleaning house better.
Hay gurl. Tonight I met up with my college roommate and we enjoyed some white wine and a lovely cheese plate at a cute place in the East Village. We then demolished the Whole Foods at Union Square – where I stocked up on Larabars (can’t have enough), grapefruit, coconut butter and almond butter. Yummmmm.
Getting up early for a run – heyooo
I totally burned myself on the oven yesterday and have yet another scar forming!
But would venture to say that my food also turned out delish (marinated and roasted asparagus and japanese yams)…I guess with yumminess comes pain sometimes
