The Spins: Black Eyed Peas to the Rescue

by Rachel on 03/06/2010

Gooood Saturday morning!

Today I was up at 6:45 to get to my early spin class. I actually woke up before my alarm went off and thought I had overslept because — OMG — the sun was already up! Spring is getting closer!!

I got to class and had a total nightmare come true: I had forgotten my ipod. I have no idea how, since it was sitting with the speakers, my phone, and my wallet. But I was prepared for a situation like this happening at some point; I had a backup CD in my car with an older playlist on it. Except the backup CD wouldn’t play, probably because it was too cold. Um…instructor fail??

Luckily, there was a copy of the Black Eyed Peas new album in the CD player. I told the ladies I was going to have to improvise. I only know about half the songs on this new album, but hey…BEP always has good beats, right?

Even though I had to wait a few seconds at the beginning of each song to get a sense of the beat, we ended up having a great class! It was like working out with the ipod on shuffle. I had no idea what was coming next, so I had to try not to kill them, because I didn’t know if the next song would be faster or harder. But it ended up being a good class — and we ended with a great seated sprint to “Electric City.” If you’ve never left yourself to the mercy of will.i.am and Fergie…I highly recommend it!

After class, I came home and lay in bed for a half hour and then showered. I’ve started doing the whole break up your breakfast thing on these early morning class days, because eating so early and then torching a ton of calories means I’m hangry mid-morning. Today I had a smoothie and cinnamon raisin English muffin with PB…and I just made breakfast round two: a fried egg with toast and a few strawbs!

I really, really love that doing this allows me to eat more of my favorite foods in one day!

I have a pretty good day planned. I have to work on some Web stuff for a few hours, but other than that, I am going to sit down with the stack of new cookbooks I got at the library yesterday. I love going to the library and walking out with four hardcovers and thinking, “OMG, I can’t believe I just bought FOUR new books…ughhh buyer’s remorse…” and then realizing, “NOPE!!!!!!”

I also have some de-clutter plans on the agenda, to keep with my goal. And I’m going to make my contribution to this week’s Outside the Box challenge! Even though I can’t win the prizes, I still need the rut busting as much as the next girl. If you haven’t submitted yet, you have until tomorrow night, so I highly suggest you get to it. The entries so far are so cool!

Have a great Saturday!

You’re gonna think I’m a stalker commenting on things all the time. But I just got on FB and you’re link was the first thing I saw. I just did my first spinning class!! Woot! My status update reads “holy shit!” Ha! And I was headed home to have eggs and toast too. Weird. The library rocks, although I drive about 25 min to another county over near Knoxville because our county charges 50 cents per hold!! Crazy. Anyway, glad the peas came thru for ya. I’m sure your class is fun!

Isn’t it such a rush to go “shopping” at the library? Have fun with your cookbooks!

Funny story- I once had an instructor obviously forget her i-pod and try to play it off that it was going to be a Zen-workout day. That we were going to spin in silence and with our eyes closed. She would tell us what to do, add on more weight, etc, but she did a whole, “imagine, you see that mountain approaching…” thing while the whole time you hear people huffing and puffing. it was more awkward than anything- good improvising on your part :)

Christie, that is hilarious! How weird would that be. Especially since we had a gal in the class I took who was really into it hooting and hollering. Her noises on top of everything grunting and panting would be really uncomfortable! :)
