It’s no secret that I have an oral fixation — keeping my teeth super sparkly is a hobby of mine. While I do love me some Whitestrips, I also am a committed flosser. But the thing about floss is that it’s not just good for having a blindingly white smile in your Facebook photo; it’s also good for your whole body!
Since it’s Go Red Month, I thought I’d take a moment to point out that recent studies have linked flossing to reduced risk of heart disease. More evidence is needed (sigh…isn’t it always?) but it’s looking like at this point that inflamed gums go hand-in-hand with inflamed arteries. Ew. That is, to me, just like the relationship of Britney and K-Fed. Additionally, there’s a link between blood sugar and gum disease, so having a clean mouth is important to controlling diabetes.
I didn’t used to pay any attention to what floss I was using. They’d just appear in one of my massive beauty bins and I’d use them without thinking. But I recently stumbled upon Johnson & Johnson Clean-Burst icy spearmint floss.

I don’t know if this stuff is waxed with crack or what, but I love it. It makes my mouth feel so fresh! I’ve noticed a huge difference when I use it and I actually enjoy using it.
Side note: If you want to drop more than $5 on your health, get a Sonicare. I got a new one for Christmas — just the basic, no bells and whistles — and I’m in love. The combination of the Sonicare, the minty floss, and my favorite Listerine whitening mouthwash (best on the market) is too much to handle. My mouth just feels so healthy, which is awesome, considering I don’t have dental insurance.
Dental floss is so cheap and really worth the extra 30 seconds a day to use. It makes your mouth feel amazing and it will make your teeth look whiter. And since the only thing whiter than my teeth is my personality, I’d say you can consider my opinion on this matter pretty legit. So, as Fergie says, be flossy, flossy.

Agreed!
“Flossing every day can add two years onto your life” – as my old Body Pump instructor (who is a dental hygienist by day) used to say ALL THE TIME!

Funny. I was just telling my roommate yesterday that flossing is good for your heart. She had no idea!
Also, I think people would find (at least I do) that once you get into the habit of flossing everyday, when you miss a day, your teeth feel nasty so it makes you want to floss anyway!
