Lemme Work It: 2/16/10

by Rachel on 02/16/2010

Good evening!

I hope you’re having a lovely Tuesday. Mine just sort of flew by. I worked all morning and then, per usual, hit my mental wall at 2:00. I don’t know what it is, but I cannot do a damn thing between the hours of 2 PM and 5 PM so I’ve rearranged my day so that I work from 8-2(ish, depending on how long I can stay focused). Then I leave my desk from around 3-5 and either work out or run errands…then dinner…and then I work from 7-9(ish). Right now, I absolutely love this routine!

Jacki and I actually canceled our lunch plans for sushi, but I’m really aiming for fish twice a week for Go Red Month so I decided to have salmon. Had it with Smart Taste penne, chickpeas, and broccoli tossed with olive oil, garlic, and Parm.

I also braved the task of cutting the mango I bought last week on an impulse. I managed to not slice open my finger, which is surprising.

Now I have fresh mango and pineapple…getting crazy, mixing things up!

Then it was time for errands, that dreaded task. I stopped at Wal-Mart for bobby pins and hair ties, and then headed to the mall to get some monogramming done. I found a nice tote on clearance for $3 last Friday on my little post-spinning shopping trip that was just dying to be monogrammed. I dropped it off and was told it would be done in an hour. Well, I hadn’t brought anything to read, and I didn’t really have any errands to run. What I wanted to do was go sit in Barnes & Noble for about 30 minutes, and then go across the street to Target for a Supermarket-Sweep style “How much can I buy in 30 minutes?” trip. But, as I do not have $250 to blow at Target on impulse buys that are way more costly than a mango, I did the responsible thing and went to the gym!

I had been on the fence about working out today. I was really sore from Core Fusion, but I knew light cardio would help…but I didn’t want to push it, which I knew meant no running or spinning. It was the perfect day for the elliptical. I miss the elliptical sometimes! Well, armed with a ton of new tunes, I just gave the elliptical a hell of a workout. Seriously, I tore it up for 30 minutes. It’s not going to sit right for a week. And…I’m not sore anymore!

I also discovered a Gym Crush — nay, a Gym HUSBAND — but, alas, I was not having the sort of hair and make-up day that really allowed me to do anything about it.

Anyway, after the gym, I headed back to the mall to pick up my tote and I was quite impressed. Let’s see…$3 tote + $8 monogram = suck on that, J. Crew.

I got home just in time for dinner; my mom had made broccoli cheddar soup and tilapia, but I was set on fish for the day, so I had it with a hunk of French bread, some deli turkey for protein, sliced orange pepper and carrots, and an apple.

And now it’s time to get back to work! Ugh, I have to open the dreaded Power Point. It’s been the bane of my existence all week. I can make a Web site, but I can’t format a damn slide. It’s making me crazy!

Hey Rachel,
I have an easy way of cutting mango w/o almost slicing off your fingers…My mom grew up in the Philippines and this is how they cut it there: it’s hard to explain, though, so I just searched and found it on this random blog: http://rebeccammendations.com/2009/06/15/tri-these-3-ingredient-summer-treats/
Hope it’s helpful!

Love the monogram! I would never think to do that, where did you bring it to be done? Good job on getting to the gym in the free time. You had clothes with you? Ahh sucks about gym husband… you always look cute though I bet you could have talked to him!

I just Googled and made some phone calls; a lot of places that do screen printing and embroidery for sports teams do it! And yes, I had brought my gym bag in case I got motivated, as often happens when I’m out and driving near them gym…it’s like, “OK, fine, I’m RIGHT HERE…”

And thank you for the compliment but I do not *always* look cute. Fun fact: if it weren’t for Shed Theater, I’m not sure I’d ever wash my hair.

I only wash my hair if I think/know I’m going to be “getting it”

Same! And if I don’t, I get legit pissed I wasted a shower and blow dry.
Similarly, if I HAVE washed my hair for some other reason, it’s a pretty safe bet I’m going to start hollering at people. Clean hair = dirty texts.
