I just love Fridays, and today is not disappointing me!
This morning I was up bright and early with my usual morning workout breakfast: whole-wheat with almond butter, a smoothie (today: vanilla Muscle Milk Light with frozen pear chunks), and coffee. Breakfast of champions!

I didn’t have a full enough spin class to teach, so I headed to the studio with Kara just to spin on our own. This was great! It’s more relaxed than teaching, but I still push myself more than I would if I were on my own. Perfect combo. Afterward she convinced me to go shopping which I totally didn’t need to do, but kinda did…it was a very successful shopping trip though! I don’t love Wal-Mart as a business, but I love that they carry the Danskin line of workout gear. Danskin stuff is cute, basic, cheap, and doesn’t fall apart. And I need new clothes. I basically write in yoga-ish pants and a track jacket every day, and I’ve been running low on both. I ended up getting two pairs of new pants in navy blue and two track jackets (including a white one which is getting bedazzled in some Shedding It way)…and a $3 tote that totally looks J. Crew. Success!
I love Friday morning spinning but I hate getting a late start on my day, which is how I felt when I got home! By the time I’d showered and eaten a snack (cottage cheese on an English muffin, my current weird snack craving), I felt like the day was shot! But Fridays are sort of my “free day”… I work straight through on Sundays and usually Saturdays too, so I can kind of relax on Fridays. I just had a bunch of following up to do on my projects, little things here and there. Yesterday was a sort of marathon work day. I finally did what I had been avoiding all week…I sat down and wrote my query letter for my book!
The query has definitely been the part of the project that has weighed most heavily on me. This is when you have to say to the world, “I think what I have done is really great and here’s why you should want it.” And everything you read on the topic of querying tells you to prepare for rejection, and, really, you do have to, but for me, I had to do it in a way that still allows me to still be positive and passionate. So that took me a few days to mentally get over. But just like the hill at the end of the marathon, I had the sense of, “I can either drag myself up it, or I can just ATTACK IT,” and with me, attacking always wins! So I finished the letter and started blasting it out, so intensely that I completely forgot to eat or even move from my desk for about six hours. But doing that is a huge sense of “Well, it’s out of my hands!” — at least for the moment anyway!
So, with that done, I feel quite good about all the things I can get done this weekend!
Because I had a snack at 11:15, I’m not quite ready for lunch yet. I am going to try to get a little more work done until I get hungry. I don’t know what I’m in the mood for yet; I’m just pumped because tonight I have sushi dinner plans!
Oh, also, some Friday business to attend to…
- I was the featured “Athlete of the Week” at ModelPer4Mance! You can check out the fun interview here (including my best nutrition and training tips and who I’d love to work out with) and while you’re there check out their nutrition consulting plans!
- I need to announce the random winner of last week’s TechCoquette/Match Kit giveaway! The Random.org winner is…Jessica! Jessica, e-mail me [ShedItAndGetIt@gmail.com] your mailing address so I can send you your prize!
- Speaking of TechCoquette, be sure to check out my latest article….a Valentine’s Day gift guide! I’m particularly obsessed with the heart-shaped ear buds…a perfect treat for any gym-going Valentine. (AKA…you!)
- Speaking of giveaways, I totally won a contest through ACE Fitness! (I am one of the luckiest people you will ever meet, I swear!) You had to Tweet a picture of yourself in your best retro workout gear. It took me all of two seconds to share the picture of my fabulous pre-marathon track suit!

So sad I had to toss that thing once I started running…but it’s still bringing me luck, now in the form of a $200 home workout kit!
OK now I’m getting really hungry. What to eat?? I’m off to the kitchen…have a great afternoon!
