New Month, New Goals: February

by Rachel on 02/01/2010

It’s time to set new goals again!!

Well, my January and February goals were slightly thrown off by the fact that I had the marathon at the beginning of January. It really only left me two weeks to complete my January goals. I’ve already achieved some of them (poaching an egg, finishing my book!) but there are a few left, simply because I haven’t had time yet. So I’m sort of combining the two months; here are the goals I am going to keep working on in February, along with a couple new ones…

Meet my New Year’s resolution goal of doing something cultural! I had planned to take belly dancing lessons, but I decided to save the money because I was really worried it might be SUPER lame! (I mean, it’s Grand Blanc, Michigan after all…) I still need to think of something to do, but I have a few ideas, so I’m not too concerned.

Keep up with the Core Fusion Challenge! So far, so good! I have done nine sessions so far, so I have six more to go to meet my goal. Honestly, making time for it has been a challenge but a goal is a goal!! And the reward is a Lululemon jacket or something equally baller, so now I’ve just got my eye on the prize.

Keep a good food journal! OK, so normally I keep a daily food journal in an open Word document on my computer — where I spend 90 percent of my day — but I always just delete the entries at the end of the day. And it’s a pain in the ass keeping Word open all the time because it slows down my computer. As a result, sometimes I just get annoyed and X it out and then kinda wing it with what I’m eating. But writing everything down has a lot of benefits; for me, I actually need to WRITE IT DOWN. To help with this goal I actually ordered a fitbook, which I’ve heard many good things about from the lovely Joanna at Fitness and Spice. Very excited!

Find a hobby! This is the most ridiculous goal, I can’t even believe I have to make it. But basically, I’ve turned all my hobbies into work…which is AWESOME…but also makes it very difficult for me to relax! I just need to do some things that don’t relate to health/fitness/cooking. I was thinking about it and I actually think that’s going to be…fashion! When I worked in fashion, it stopped being something I could enjoy. Every time I would read a fashion magazine, it just made me think of work. But now that I’ve had a nice break from it, I actually miss it. So my goal is really to spend 10 or 20 minutes each day doing something for pleasure!

Go Red goal: get my cholesterol tested! I keep putting it off because I don’t want to fast beforehand (and I couldn’t really when I was running so much) but I’m just going to suck it up, get up early, and get the damn thing done! I might get my body fat tested this month too; it’s just good to know where you stand — and how healthy (or unhealthy) habits can make a difference.

I love making goals, so I could probably go on and on and on, but I don’t want to make so many that I’m overwhelmed by them. I mean, we only have 28 days after all!

What are your  goals this month? Please…share with the class!

i am keeping a journal this month. every single day starting a couple days ago! NOT a food journal, been there done that, see how it help, but it made me a nut. so this journal is solely for reflection/processing. Im also trying to drink more water (almost always a goal every month!) and trying to be nicer to my boyfriend. i mastered being nicer to myself last month (no fat talk, etc)…but i need to be a little nicer to him!!

My former editor, Lana Mini, performs and teaches belly dance all over the Detroit area, and she just released an instructional DVD. She’s a very cool lady, so I’m sure her DVD is too. It’s a great low-cost way to try belly dancing and support a local business!

Well since I’m going to hawaii the first week of april, I’m really trying to get in the best shape i’ve ever been in. So my goals are mostly fitness/nutrition related. I tried the fat flush diet and it DID work but I was actually loosing weight at a more rapid pace then I wanted to. I have 2 months to go so I decided to take it down a couple notches. I’m sticking to very little/no drinking, lowering salt intake, and eating all meals at home, which include LOTS of fruit & veggies! Also increasing my workouts to 5 times per week, remembering to include 3 days of weight training.

Carla, I love your goals, especially because you are remembering the importance of strength training!! And I’m glad the Fat Flush is working…I am sure you will feel/look amazing in Hawaii!!
