Taste Testing: Dark Chocolate Coconut Tasty Little Chewies

When it comes to processed foods, Kashi is pretty boss. They really made healthy, fibrous, protein-packed whole grains mainstream and available everywhere you go. And that is what saved me in a pinch a few weeks back when I got caught at Target (!!!) and I was ready to gnaw off my own arm! I was planning to buy the healthiest snack I could, as I had other errands to run, and wanted to stop at the gym. I was going to just get a Luna bar, but then I found these granola bars!

I was expecting something closer to 200 calories, but when I checked the nutrition, I was way surprised: 120 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein.

All right, Kashi…you got my attention!

I am not a big granola bar person, but I figured I’d give it a try. I do love dark chocolate and coconut, after all!

These were really good! The top layer of chocolate is really moist and thick, and the granola isn’t too hard. (Not like that Quaker chocolate chip shit your mom would give you after school before soccer.) You really taste the chocolate more than anything, so it actually is a legit chocolate or dessert fix. (The coconut really just seems decorative though.) As far as snacks go, it’s packing some decent stats for such a small amount. You could bump it up into a legit 200-calorie snack with a cup of skim milk because it would definitely give a milk and cookie effect.

Definitely worth it!

I love these bars!! I also got them at Target recently due to being on sale. Anyway, what I like to do with them is sometimes smear peanut butter on top. :) I really like the chocolate raspberry one as well. The pumpkin pie flavor is decent but not WOW ya know what I mean?

My Biggest problem with these is the lack of nuts! I had a box where every bar was pretty much sans nuts. I tried the raspberry ones with almonds, and no nuts!

I am eating the cherry dark chocolate TLC bar right now. While I support Kashi’s hanger-controlling abilities (I discovered one of the reasons I am often cranky in the morning is that I wake up STARVING), I wouldn’t recommend this flavor. There aren’t enough cherries, and I am disappointed.

I love the dark chocolate coconut ones, though. My roommate buys them in bulk!
