Rise and Dine! Yummy Tummy Smoothie

by Rachel on 01/15/2010

For this week’s breakfast recipe, I decided to try a new smoothie recipe. I don’t usually use a smoothie “recipe.” Generally I just put Muscle Milk Light and a fronana in the Magic Bullet for 20 seconds and call it a day. (Sometimes I get crazy with Amazing Grass powder or hemp oil.) It’s tasty and all but it’s kind of LAME!

It was high time I took my smoothie up a notch with some healthy add-ins. So…that’s what this smoothie is all about! I’ve wanted to make it for months, after seeing it in Women’s Health Magazine last summer, so this week, so I finally adapted it a bit and made it my own! According to the mag, it’s a recipe for a flat belly and a way out of digestive woes. For protein, it contains Greek yogurt, because the probiotics are good for your gut. The flax seeds add fiber, and the ginger and mint are herbal soothers for an unhappy stomach.

Ingredients

1/2 cup frozen peaches

1/2 pear, cubed (skin left on)

2 mint leaves, minced

1 tsp ground flax seed

1/4 tsp minced ginger

1/2 c low-fat Greek yogurt

1/2 c water

(If you want to skip the Greek yogurt, you can do any type of protein; just aim for 8 ounces of liquid total. You can do milk or soymilk or get crazy with some whey powder…totally up to you!)

This is How We Do It

Combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth.

Garnish with mint leaves to serve!

I had this for breakfast yesterday with a cup of hot mint green tea and it was SO refreshing! I’m used to typical smoothies…strawberry, banana, chocolate, etc. This was a really good switch! The flavors from the fruit, mint, and ginger compliment each other really well. It just tasted so FRESH and it was such a good break from my routine smoothies. And to round it out into a full meal, have a handful of nuts along with it.

Stock up on ingredients this weekend and you’ll have healthy breakfast ready to make all throughout your busy workweek!

Mm that looks really delicious, sounds better than a lot of the smoothies I’ve seen. I don’t have a magic bullet but I suppose a blender would work just fine?

A friend recommended your blog earlier in the week and I love it. You’re hilarious. :) Thanks for sharing this recipe; I’ll be trying it soon since I’ve been in a smoothie-making rut lately. This one seems like it’ll be a winner!

Yesss! I LOVE hearing back from people who try recipes! I’ve also started cutting the pear in cubes and freezing it ahead of time so it blends even better and gets nice and creamy!!

I’d love to make smoothies on Sunday night for the entire week. Do you know a method for keeping them either in the freezer or fridge so I can whip them out each morning befor eheading to the gym and then work?

You know, I’ve never heard of a way of doing it that works, but I am going to look into it this week! With this one, you could probably freeze the fruit, ginger, and mint together in containers so then all you’d have to do is blend the day of. It would at least cut one step for you!!!

I almost always use frozen fruit anyway because I don’t like to use ice and blending frozen fruit makes it extra creamy! And you can def freeze herbs.
