After Catholic elementary school and high school, I got my fill of church, that’s for sure. But now my workouts are my spiritual time. I don’t think I’m the only one I was reading Runner’s World on the plane today, and Dr. Drew (DILF BTW) is quoted in there saying that running “is where I meet my higher power.” My favorite spinning instructor in New York, Ken (seriously take his class at Crunch…seriously), often gave us this one old-school gospel song when it was “time to go to the black Baptist church.” It was a long-ass song and the jumps were tough, but it always made me laugh.
I was thinking about this playlist when I was running on Monday, and I got a huge smile on my face when I realized how appropriate it is for this week, given that I always title my marathon training posts, “Hail Mary.”
Can I get a witness?!
A Call From the Vatican (Penelope Cruz from “Nine”)
Oh My God (Mark Ronson ft. Lily Allen)
Faith (George Michael)
Disco Heaven (Lady Gaga)
Makes Me Wanna Pray (Christina Aguilera ft. Stevie Wonder)
Mercy Remix (Duffy ft. The Game)
Halo (Gomi Club Remix)
Heavy Cross (Gossip) **This song is just so BA!
Pray (Jay-Z ft. Beyonce)
Go-Go Gadget Gospel (Gnarls Barkley)
Livin’ On a Prayer (Bon Jovi)
Jesus Walks (Kanye West) **I love this song when I’m strength training!
Like a Prayer (Madonna)
Gives You Hell (All-American Rejects)
Who Will Save Your Soul (Jewel)
Have a great night!

Hi Rachel, I recently came across your blog (wow, if i had a penny for every comment that opened with that one liner..) and just NEED to tell you that I love your approach to talking about fitness! You’re funny, have some edge and (my favorite) you don’t use an obscene amount of smiley faces, exclamation points or blah blah, you know what I mean.
Your writing style is sharp and clever and refreshing, particularly for the fitness/wellness/food genre.
You certainly have a new reader in me.

Sandy– I’d probably use more emoticons if they could come up with an emoticon that said, “Are you f*cking kidding me?” or “Oooooops!” because those are the two faces I make most. Anyway, thank you for the lovely comment and I am looking forward to reading more of your blog as well!!
You are brilliant! Love the theme of this playlist, this is awesome.

I’m not religious at all, but Jesus Walks has a speciala significance for me–it was the first song I ran straight through back when I started last year, so it’s still my power-through song. Silly, huh?
Less than 24 hours to go for Go Rachel Time! I’m rootin’, girl….
