Gooooood day!
I just love Fridays so much, and this Friday is off to a very good start!!
So this morning I was all out of protein powder/Muscle Milk, so I decided to make pesto eggs for breakfast. Pesto before 8 AM is definitely a win in my book!

I love Fridays because I start the day with my fave spin class, and I am glad I went today…not just for the rocking workout, which it was, but for the OMGDRAMZ that happened at the end of class! So, we’re cooling down and Leslie says, “Good job you guys! You really pushed it today!” or something to that effect, and then this woman in the back of the room — who comes in 15 minutes late every week BTDUBS — shouts across the room, “YEAH, EXCEPT FOR THE TEXTING LADY!!” ….in the direction of the MILF on her Crackberry behind me. So the MILF is like, “SORRY I HAVE A JOB!” and then quieter (but still pretty loud), “F*ckin A!” Leslie is trying to be positive and is like, “Oh yes, she spins and works, it’s OK!” and I’m looking around with my best OHNOSHEDINT face waiting for the shit to go down. I mean, this is Grand Blanc, at Genesys of all places. You don’t drop F bombs in public! So the bitch comes over to the MILF and says, “I’m just TEASING.”
She was not teasing. The MILF knew this, didn’t back down, and got all, “Yeah, I actually WORK and this is the only way I can spin too.” I’m not sure if this other woman works or not but the MILF was implying that she was just somebody’s wife.
I felt like I was on “Real Housewives!” But the moral of this story is, yes, sometimes people do annoying things at the gym, but it’s not our job to publicly call them out, especially if they aren’t hurting you (it’s not like she was talking on her phone the entire time) and you don’t know the whole story. I remember being on my Blackberry on my spinning bike in NYC because it was the only way to quell the anxiety attack that came from being away from my desk at 7 PM on a Friday night. Sometimes being a few minutes late to a class or checking e-mail is the only way a girl can fit in fitness. Live and let live, shall we?
After class I was really hungry so I had a banana with PB. Then it was time for a real lunch. I made a cup of the Trader Joe’s beef chili I picked up on my last trip there and topped it with some chopped onions, crushed baked tortilla chips, a lil cheese, and a lil sour cream.

I was about to eat when I realized, Um, this meal needs some PLANTS! So I found some pathetic iceberg salad blend and mixed in fresh red peppers, onions, broccoli, and cucumbers, and drizzled on some Newman’s Own light balsamic dressing.

OK, that’s more like it! Now we have a real meal. The chili was really, really good (it tastes a lot like Wendy’s chili, which I like) and has 15 percent of your RDA for iron, but the downside is it has a shit-ton of sodium. Definitely one to have in moderation!
OK I’m off, but don’t forget that you still have until 3 PM today to enter The Nuts giveaway…so head back to that post and comment and Tweet it up! I was snacking on the famous nuts again before bed last night…oh, so good! I wish I could figure out what was in them; I’m starting to believe it’s crack. Spicy crack.
Also, if you liked my Mistletoe Martini, be sure to check out the Lemon Fizz Punch recipe I did for my favorite Brit/Twitter girl-crush Fit Girl About Town. I was so flattered to be their first guest-poster, so I did my best to come up with a low-cal holiday cocktail that would impress!! I love this site (doesn’t take itself too seriously) so be sure to click around while you’re over there.
I’m so excited it’s almost the weekend. I COMPLETELY cleared my schedule and have nothing major to do and I couldn’t be happier about it. I don’t even want to leave my house! I got three new magazines in the mail yesterday and last night I hit the library and got so many new books. I could barely carry them all out! Last night I started on Chocolate: A Bittersweet Saga of Dark and Light which is completely up my alley and also makes me want to go pick up and go to France and taste fine chocolate! There is a chocolate connoisseur named Chloe Doutre-Roussel featured throughout the book — the woman eats about a pound of chocolate a day and keeps her bedroom at 59 degrees so the chocolate doesn’t get too warm…I mean, you think you like chocolate and then you hear that and it’s like, Oh, OK, you win — and she had some great quotes about chocolate. I really like when she talks about people’s perceptions of chocolate. She says most people feel too guilty when eating chocolate to enjoy it. “Chocolate is an extremely sensual material, so it has always been associated with sin, which is why so many religions look down on it. You just have to give yourself permission to enjoy it…It is such an immense relief when you can rid yourself of any guilty feelings…The two most important things about chocolate are that it can improve your quality of life and bring you easily available pleasure. It helps you enjoy living, and that’s why we are here.” Really, I think that quote could be applied to all types of food, so I’m just going to leave you with that thought.
Have a lovely afternoon!
