Good Monday morning!
I hope you had a fabulous weekend!! Mine was fun, but it didn’t go exactly as I had planned…
Friday I ran around like a mad woman trying to get everything done and get my stuff packed for Chicago. I totally pulled it off, and then went to Royal Oak Friday night for some good, old-fashioned boozing. It was so fun; I haven’t been out with my home friends in a while, and I had forgotten how fun they are! It was just one of those nights that brings about story upon story: drinking games, girl drama, fun boys, witnessing a guy get hit by a car…I mean, really, quite a night!
Such a night that I MISSED THE BUS TO CHICAGO THE NEXT MORNING.
In hindsight, this seems completely unavoidable, and, honestly, it’s kind of funny to know that the girl I was in college still lives inside me, waiting to be unleashed. I tried to reschedule and get on a later bus, but, honestly, on two hours of sleep, I didn’t really have the energy to deal with Amtrak and Megabus and all that ish. I ended up spending the day on my friend Tracy’s couch, watching Mad Men in between video chats with our friends from college to detail the minute-by-minute dramz of the night before. We did muster some energy and went out for lunch and then went to Trader Joe’s, but by 4:00, we were both fading pretty fast. I wasn’t really hungover (THANK YOU, VODKA-WATER), but I was so, so tired. I got about two hours of sleep, as I did actually get up at 6:30 to attempt to make my bus on time. After a day so tired I was stumbling into things, I headed to Jacki’s for dinner. While I was really proud of myself for having a healthy day after drinking/no sleep, the “I’m sleepy” munchies hit at that point. There was Jimmy John’s. There were pita chips. There were cookies. However, breakfast, lunch, and snacks were super healthy, and had I been in Chicago at the cocktail party, I would have been drinking more calories than were in my “Turkey Tom,” so I wasn’t too worried about it. I mean, considering that in college I had days like that, um, three or four times a week…and this was my first one in four months…it’s fine!
We watched “The Ugly Truth” and then I headed home to call it an early night because I knew I needed to be back on track for Sunday. I wanted to relax, but still get a run in. I had to get a run in. It wasn’t even a question! That’s another good thing about my life now; the night of drinking doesn’t become an excuse for days and days of slovenly behavior.
Luckily, I woke up feeling pretty good! I had a lazy Sunday, watching DVR and reading cookbooks and magazines. Sometime in the morning, I got the idea to do something I never do: work out at night! Right now, I’m at a point where I could stand to be around my family and my 5-year-old brother a lot less. I realized that the hours of 6 PM to 9 PM are generally when I’m trying hardest not to throw Preston or myself down the stairs…so maybe I should be gone during those hours!
I reheated some spinach and goat cheese pasta from the freezer, and quickly thawed some shrimp and put it on the stove with olive oil, minced garlic, and broccoli. I let it all get warm, made a salad, and had a very good pre-workout dinner!

Then it was off to the gym! Did I want to do my eight miles? Of course. Did I? Nahhhh. I went for the fiver, which is fine. I did some speedwork on the treadmill, but then I realized…I hate the treadmill right now! My gym got rid of all the good ones and we’re left with these crap ones that seem better suited to a basement, with clothes hanging from them. NOT OKAY. So I rocked out on the track, and then did arm weights.
I have to say, I really liked my night workout! I had a lot more energy, but I came home feeling relaxed…and I stayed more relaxed because I had avoided an hour and a half with the family unit. Aside from my 18-mile run this week (OMFGdon’twannatalkaboutitttttt), I think I am going to stick with this new evening plan! I think a change of scenery is exactly what I need to get through the next three weeks of training.
Unfortunately my body isn’t used to the night workouts yet, so it did take me longer to fall asleep….and of course I woke up at my usual time. Ugh. I also had my usual breakfast, with the return of my old favorites: Nature’s Pride bread and TJ’s almond butter! The store had been out of my favorite bread…and I had been out of almond butter…so this morning I’m having a sweet reunion.

I’m a little sleepy but I’m going to get going on a very good Monday! Ahhh…long shower, writing, cooking, working, and, oh, hey, maybe thinking up some new videos. It’s going to be great.
Have a great day!

I miss working out at the gym. Since I worked there I would take all sorts of classes after work. I definitely prefer to workout at night, too. And I swear I may just get the nerve to try out running again. See what one person can do?

RUN! Do it! Even if you run slow, even if you run for a few minutes! (Although if you have sexy thoughts, you may find yourself suddenly becoming a distance runner…)
I am a girl who LOVES to run at night. Honestly, it’s my favourite time of the day to actually run.
I just did my second and it really was good!
I found your site through random Tweets, and you looked sort of familiar – then I saw Royal Oak/Chicago on this page and have to ask – have we met before?
