Pimp My Kitchen: New Apron

by Rachel on 11/23/2009

If there’s one thing that I consider a kitchen essential, it’s an apron. I know a lot of people don’t cook in an apron, but I just feel naked without it! It’s really quite handy — it protects your clothes, it allows you to wipe off your hands when a towel is out of reach, and, perhaps most important, it makes you look and feel like a bona fide chef! Your cake may fall flat, your salmon may scorch, but if anyone were to come upon you, they’d think, “Oh my, who is this lovely and talented mistress of the kitchen?!”

My “Delicious” apron, which my mom made for me, was getting a little ratty, so I started looking for a new one. I wanted something a little more retro, a little sassy…just, you know, more fabulous. I just bought a KitchenAid after all; I wanted to look the part! So, last week, I started scouring the internet for the perfect apron. (Yes, my mom could make me a new one, but I figured she needed a break after Halloween.) And…I didn’t have much luck at first! Everything was seriously overpriced and I wasn’t that impressed.

Luckily, I eventually ended up on Etsy, where I found the amazing Boojiboo shop! It’s a mother and daughter team and they specialize in vintage-inspired aprons. Plus, they custom-designed the apron pattern to be super flattering. I just love that I can have an apron with a sweetheart neckline!

There were so many adorable prints, I wasn’t even sure where to begin! Luckily, I had some direction in mind; I wanted something for the holidays. This narrowed it down a lot, and I found two prints I loved. I ended up going with one that was less Christmassy, so I could wear it all winter.

Adorable! It was only $30, and, considering most of the aprons I had looked at had been around $50 or $60, I was fine with that. Done, and done!

It shipped later that day, and two days later I had it…all wrapped up in a pretty pink bow!

Happy holidays to ME!!!

I am SO ready to make Thanksgiving dinner, host a cookie party, prepare Christmas brunch, and make alllllll kinds of holiday treats in this baby!

Even though it’s really pretty, it’s also machine washable, so I don’t have to worry about getting frosting on it! For $30, you can bet I’m going to be getting a new one when the seasons change (or maybe, like, next week). And it’s definitely a great gift to any domestic diva on your list. (Ummm or yourself. You deserve it.)

That apron is so cute! I need to get myself one, I always end up with food all over my clothes when I cook.
