So, a few weeks ago, a reader e-mailed me and said she needed a daily dose of motivation to get to working out that day. I thought about it. I have a little mental closet where I store different types of motivation. I pulled out my LBD of “no excuses” and shared it with her, but I thought I’d share with everyone!
When I’m thinking about not working out, I think about how much time it takes. Like, what, 30 minutes? An hour, tops? Then I think back to all the times I chose not to work out when I was in high school. I had a gym membership. The gym was on my way home. All I had to do was swing by and put in thirty minutes, and I’d have been all set. I would have been healthier, and so much happier.
Like, I had the time and I had the means, and I was just like, “Hmmm, ya know, I’d rather just go home and sleep and watch MTV because it will be much more fun to try to work this off a year from now, when I’m trying to get in shape for a wedding/a reunion/whatever. Why work on this now when there are all those ‘How to drop 10 lbs in a week’ ads for diet pills out there?” Ummm. No.
It’s 30 minutes, a few times a week. That is really not that long at all. You can find that time. But when you try to make up for lost time, whether it’s a month later, or a year later, or, honestly, just 5-10 pounds later, it’s hard not to think, “Ugh! Why didn’t I just get off the couch then!?! Why did I wait so long???”
So. Get off the couch. Stop waiting. I promise you won’t regret it.
Have a great afternoon!
