Lemme Work It: 10/27/09

by Rachel on 10/27/2009

Good evening! How’s your Tuesday going?

I have to say, this is one of the most productive days I’ve had in a few weeks! After a very wonderful sushi lunch yesterday with my mentor/Everythingwoman, I was so inspired for all the projects I have going on right now. I want to work on everything all at once, but I still have a lot of other things on my mind (namely, a Halloween party, and a three-city trip). So I made a schedule last night of everything I wanted to do today and…I did it! It feels so great to be productive like that.

My schedule said at 4 PM it was time to run and do Pilates, so at 3:00, I made a quick snack. Kept it seasonal: a big apple and pumpkin seeds!

I did a 3 mile run in my neighborhood, which was good for today! I didn’t have to spend time driving to the trails and back, and the hills around here are always a challenge. I don’t like running here in the late afternoon though. The buses are out and there are kids everywhere! And there’s this massive St. Bernard that I hate — every time I run by it it barks at me. It lives on a cul-de-sac so I run by it twice in, like, one minute, at the beginning and the end of the run. And when there are kids everywhere, I can’t indulge my impulse and snap, “Suck it, Beethoven!” each time it starts barking.

After the run and a shortened version of Pilates, it was time to make dinner. Earlier in the day, I found some lime chicken burgers in the freezer from Trader Joe’s, so I decided to make those! I just love that you can cook them from frozen. We had everything for a good meal on hand, and, miracle of miracles, we had the stuff for my homemade guac! I made the guacamole, grilled the burgers, sliced and diced a bit, and had dinner ready in 30 minutes! I had my burger with roasted red peppers, red onion, guac, and lettuce, with peppers and baked tortilla chips on the side.

During dinner, Preston was being a total brat, and we were arguing. I called his cardboard box “robot legs” stupid and he started yelling at me that I can’t call things stupid, because it’s a bad word. OK — sorry he’s 5 years old, but they are stupid. He was in the living room, yelling at me and carrying on about how stupid is a really bad word, and then he said, “But SHIT is a REALLY bad word!” I could not help myself — I started laughing hysterically, as did my mom and grandma. Within seconds, we had tears streaming down our bright red faces and were gasping for air as we laughed uncontrollably. This only made Preston angrier, and he started screaming, “You guys are being dramatic! Dramatic! DRAMATIC!!!!!” Of course, this just made us laugh harder. It went on for quite some time. I LOL a lot but this was spectacular. Love moments like that with the little ones.

Those chicken burgers are so good! And so filling, too! You just reminded me that I need to get some more!

I talk smack to dogs too – even though I know one of our dogs would bark incessantly at runners. I am going to have to try that guac!

Everything you make always looks delicious.

lol! The mental image of you yelling “Suck it Beethoven!” to a Saint Bernard is too funny! There’s a group of dogs at one house that always come barking and growling whenever I go by their house…those little jerks irritate the hell outta me.

Preston told you! ;)
