More Ways to Press Play!

You guys know I can’t live without my ipod, whether I’m driving, cooking, or exercising! I’m always on the hunt for new tunes and remixes. I also love to LOL so I love comedy albums and funny audiobooks. Here are the latest ways I’ve been updating my collection…

  • I’m now shopping for MP3s on the Amazon MP3 store! iTunes is great, but Amazon is totally underrated. You can buy individual songs for 99 cents and the downloading tool works great! I haven’t had any problems getting the songs into iTunes (it also works with Windows Media Player) and onto my ipod. Also, I’ve been able to find albums on Amazon that I can’t on iTunes (like Girl Talk.) And Amazon has great deals! Just this weekend I wanted the New Moon soundtrack (don’t judge me — I’ve never even seen “Twilight” but the album reviews were great). It was $14.99 on iTunes…and $4.99 on Amazon! At first I thought it was a trick, but it’s not! And it was so worth the $5…great album (although not really for working out).
  • Through Amazon, I found Audible.com. You can join for $7.49 a month for the first three months ($14.95 after that). The membership basically gets you a free audiobook each month. My first choice was Chelsea Handler “My Horizontal Life,” because, well, LOL. I prefer them for driving or walking, but I know a lot of people like them for working out too! Whatever works!
  • If you aren’t on the ipod train but still want to rock out when working out, you can get the Slot Radio! Basically it’s an MP3 player for which you buy pre-loaded workout mixes (there are other mixes too). The mixes have 1,000 songs for $100 — way cheaper than buying those songs one at a time! Seriously convenient too!
  • Hood Internet. Leah told me about this site yesterday and I am so excited about it! The music is similar to Girl Talk — really great mash-ups of popular songs. But each track usually just has two songs and they are also a bit more non-pop than Girl Talk…and that’s not a bad thing at all! You can download the music for free, and seriously, it’s great. I got Mix Tape Volume 3 today and it has more than 30 songs! (Ex: Estelle and Kanye + The Ting Tings = Shut Up, American Boy.) And I love it because it’s all good for working out so you can just listen to it continuously…no need to even make a separate playlist!

Just more ways to be sure your gym sessions/dance parties/boring commutes stay as amazing as possible!

Thanks for the tips. I loved listening to Jillian Michaels’ radio show when it was still on air, so maybe I’d like audiobooks, too? I will have to check it out. It made running time fly by!

Ok, THIS is very good to know. My MacBook crashed about 2 months ago and along with it so did my entire iTunes music collection. I am in no hurry to pay iTunes another $1+ to buy all my favorite tunes back. I’m going to swing by the Amazon. Thanks for the tip!

For audiobooks, I rely on my public library. Sometimes I might have to wait for something to come available, but not always.
I’m pretty happy with Amazon’s mp3 downloads – however, earlier this year my laptop crashed and I was not able to recover the songs I’d bought through Amazon. :( Maybe the answer is to burn hard copy back-ups.

OMG that’s a nightmare….I back up all my audio files on an external hard drive now.
