Lemme Work It: 10/13/09

G’day!

Well, after staying up last night to watch the Kanye West is a Gay Fish episode of South Park on demand, I kicked off this oh-so-sleepy Tuesday morning with some fall-ish oats. After the amazingness of the Snickers sub that I mentioned yesterday, I’m starting to really appreciate dried dates. So instead of my typical banana, I put some in my oatmeal…and then decided to add the dark chocolate chips for good measure. Then I added a little almond butter and a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin.

This was a winning combination for me! The dates were perfect, and I love pumpkin but I think using less is a good idea; it’s a bit overwhelming otherwise. I forgot how much I love dark chocolate, and the chips are tastier than using powder. It was just the right blend of nutty, sweet, and savory! I had it with a big cup of coffee and was generally blissful. Kaytee’s recipe is just turning out to be the gift that keeps on giving for me!

I made an executive decision today to not run first thing in the morning. I love getting it out of the way, but I also feel like I can get so much work done between breakfast and lunch if I don’t run. If I run early, my morning is completely sucked up by traveling to and from the trails, running, and showering. I have the afternoon free to do work but somehow it’s harder for me to be productive between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00. I got so much done this morning, so I think this may be the ideal schedule for me!

After writing two articles for other publications, I started on something that I’ve been meaning to do for a couple weeks. When I was in college, I wrote the blog “The Spartanette” for three years. It was a blog before blogging was, well, blogging as we know it today! It didn’t have tags or categories or good pictures (and it’s a true shame it didn’t have Twitter)! The Spartanette covered college life from the point of view of a sorority girl at Michigan State University, and it caused more than a little controversy (and earned me the lovely nickname “the oft-mentioned ho bag” from the staff at the school newspaper). It’s been floating around in Internet oblivion for the past year, but now I have some plans for it. The first step was putting all the content into a Word document, to get an idea of what I was working with.

And…I am working with 400 pages! I couldn’t believe how much content I had. I also couldn’t believe how much I still love every last word. At the time, I don’t think I really understood what I was doing and why it had the impact and reputation it did. I wrote whatever I wanted because it was simply my daily life. I never saw the big picture! Today, after re-reading a lot of things I had forgotten about, I have to say, I am so proud of my 20-year-old self. I was pretty damn ballsy!

Now I have to start the real project: go through all 400 pages to edit it and see what I can do with it. But I’m quite excited to have it all in one long-ass document! It was also a fun trip down Memory Lane…the posts just are such a reflection on the stuff I was going through and the emotions I was feeling every semester! (Sean, Eric, Jeff…I sort of feel like I owe you guys royalties!) Anyway…I thought I’d share a few of my all-time favorite posts here. A little more “Getting It” than “Shedding It,” but well…you’re going to have that sometimes.

Young Lady, You’re Going in a Dating Time Out

All Tied Up (The emotional safety word. Still so true!)

I Faked It (Also still true.)

I’d F*ck a Democrat, I Just Wouldn’t Marry One (Sigh. Yep, still true.)

Socialology 101 (I told you I love making up new words! Also check out The Dichter Scale for more vocab.)

The Evolution of Facebook

So today was one those days where I was very busy and productive, but I also didn’t move for oh, five hours. I almost missed lunch! But then, that would probably never actually happen, would it? I wanted to get more stuff done, though, so it was a quick lunch: defrosted Sweet and Spicy Peanut Soup and a wrap with Sabra hummus and veggies! Quick, meatless, healthy, yummy!

And for dessert I had two mini Honeycrisps!

Then it was time for an easy taper run — just three miles! The odd thing about my life is that I’m a runner, not a walker. I can run 12 miles and be fine, but if I spend a day walking around more than usual, I end up sore. So strange! So, after my hour-long walk yesterday, today I woke up with a sore back and shin splints. Go figure.

I didn’t bother to go to the trails because I was low on time and I didn’t think it was worth it or such a short little jaunt. It was good to mix it up, because my neighborhood has a good amount of hills! There’s a ton of gorgeous sun, but it’s pretty chilly today. But I just love that brisk air for running! I really picked up the pace and I felt like my lungs were burning (in a good way).

I love how short three miles feels now. It was a good run and I literally ran straight into the house and into the shower! Tonight I am driving down to Ann Arbor to see David Cross live. I am so excited for the LOLs that await!

Have a great night!

I just watched that SP episode a few weeks ago with my husband. It’s hilarious! We may have burnt the joke out soon after when a few too many “Do you like fish sticks” lines were thrown out.
Haha!

David Cross?? I’m pretty jealous.

Also, 400 pages worth of blog? That’s sort of awesome. My previous blogs (pre-Tumblr) have all been erased from existence. High school KT was a totally different animal. That’s mostly a good thing.
