Lemme Work It: 10/6/09

by Rachel on 10/06/2009

G’day! I hope your first October Tuesday is going well!

I feel like I got a ton done this morning…and then burned through all my energy and turned into the laziest person ever. But, well, sometimes it’s impossible to stop watching “Law & Order: SVU” in your bathrobe.

My morning got off to a great start. I couldn’t sleep last night. I haven’t been sleeping well lately, and it’s honestly because I’m so happy and have so many good things to be excited about. I wish I could stay up all night writing and then get up early to run. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way, so I make myself go to bed early — so as to avoid The Tale of Two Milkshakes THE SEQUEL — but then I just toss and turn. It took me two playlists and the “eSleep Lite” app to finally nod off!

And then I woke up before my alarm at 7 AM. What. The. Hell. But I wasn’t tired, so I just got up. I immediately got dressed for my run, and then some sort of superhuman force took over me and I packed lunches for the fam, cleaned the whole kitchen, and made everyone breakfast. Um, what?! Yes, I’m a morning person, but it was a bit intense, even for me.

I’ve actually put a new breakfast into the rotation. Nothing major, but I swapped Kashi Honey Oat waffles for the English muffin (still topped with nut butter). I’ve never eaten waffles as toast before, but I dig it! Sweet breakfasts don’t work for me (I sugar crash easily), but I do like waffles sans syrup and butter! And I changed up my smoothie and had it with vanilla MM Light, frozen mango, fronana, and a serving of FRS. FRS is an energy drink and you can get a free sample on their Web site, so of course I did just that. You get a huge jug of it and the chews for the $3 shipping. It has quercetin, a potent antioxidant, as well as some other vitamins. I decided to have that instead of coffee, since I was clearly already flying. I can’t really say if it gives me a major energy boost (I just have a lot of energy in my normal state; I should try it when I’m hungover I suppose), but the orange flavor does make my smoothie taste like a Creamsicle. The smoothie was so thick from the frozen fruit; it was pretty much just like a shake!

Then it was time to run! I was at the trails by 9:00, which was my plan for my 60 minute timed run. I strapped on the ipod, texted my mom to tell her where I was and how long I’d be running (yep), and then I was off with Death Cab “Soul Meets Body” to get me going!

I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to have a run as amazing as my last one, and that was indeed the case. My hips were a little cranky. It was also about 50 degrees this morning, so I was pretty cold at first. Once I warmed up, things were better, but it still wasn’t like Sunday. Oh well. I kind of like that I don’t know when the fabulous high is going to grace me with its presence again.

Even without it, I just really love running these early trail runs! The trails really popular and there are so many lovely Grand Blanc people out walking their dogs, having early exercise dates with friends/spouses, and there are usually a few runners. Everyone says good morning to each other and they are just so nice. Oh, the pleasantries of suburban life.

So I finished my run, texted my mom to tell her I was alive and very sweaty, and then drove home. I decided to do Yoga for Runners to work on these hips of mine, but I couldn’t seem to put the Crackberry down the entire time! Not very zen, but I still got the job done, and I feel much better. Then I ended up chatting with my grandma and going on a garage hunt for my dogs’ sweaters (yes sweaters — they are little, shaved, and cold — so sue me). I did not find the sweaters but I did find some more fantastic “Before” pics. High school graduation. I look like a tent for a family of four. Get excited.

I still hadn’t had a recovery snack, so I finally got around to making my pumpkin latte, and…I don’t know what went wrong! The spices clumped and burned, there was too much hemp milk….all-around FAIL. It was way beyond the 30-60 minute recovery window anyway, and I didn’t know what I wanted, so I just ended up having a glass of low-fat chocolate milk. It’s actually a perfect recovery snack because of the carbs/protein, but I hope it doesn’t give me a stomachache!

My plan was to shower and get busy writing. Did I? Well I started to. I ended up sitting down with my grandma and getting sucked into two episodes of Law & Order: SVU. In my bathrobe. Damnit, Benson and Stabler. Why are you and your dead hookers so compelling?

After a particularly depressing episode involving teenagers killing each other, Type II Diabetes, and a severed finger, I finally showered and made lunch! I wanted something fast, so I warmed up some Imagine Organics Moroccan Chickpea soup (unique/I like it) and made a wrap with hummus, red onions, and peppers. Raw veggies and a massive Granny Smith on the side!

Quick, healthy, meatless, chock full of chickpeas, and only two hours behind schedule!

Now I’m working on some freelance articles (check out my latest on Tech Coquette if you’d like some rules for defriending guys), chasing on new opportunities, and tackling my to-do list. Where did the day go?! Buying new pajama pants may have to wait until tomorrow.

Have a great afternoon!

Yay for Granny Smith apples : )
Did you like the Kashi waffles? I’ve been wanting to try them but I can’t sell myself on them. I just bought myself some new pajama pants from Macy’s. They were only 12 dollars and they were the cute lumberjack plaid in lots of bright colors. I love them.

Yeah I do like the waffles! I like them better than toast/Eng muffin, because they are a little softer and fluffier, even when toasted.
I definitely need to get to Macy’s. I feel like they are falling on tough times, but it means sales for the rest of us…
