Good evening! It’s such a cool, blustery fall night and I’m dying of happiness in my cozy little room.
Today felt like the first day of the rest of my life. I’m still just so happy to be done with my exam! I didn’t get to bed early enough, though, so I’m kind of dragging ass. Still, I have to say, this is the most productive day I’ve had in ages. I worked from the moment I got up until I went to the gym at 3:00! It felt so good; plus it was raining, so it was easy to stay in. Over lunch I was thinking about how I needed some new reading material, and then, lo and behold, a box from Amazon appeared in the mailbox! It was a little early, so it was a nice surprise. This week’s reading material: a new Cooking Light cookbook (just discovered that Amazon has bargain cookbooks!) and “Catching Fire: How Cooking Made us Human.” I love those sort of pop-science, pop-history books, so I’m so excited to get into this one.
I was sort of torn on what to do for today’s workout. I have a good amount of flexibility in my schedule right now, so I debated doing speedwork inside, running outside, or cross training. Eventually I decided to do one of my 4-mile runs (I have two scheduled this week, plus a 6-miler). It was perfect running weather — the rain was done, but the air had that wetness that’s just delicious — but I decided to go inside since I had made a new playlist for speed intervals.
And then I got inside and realized I had forgotten to upload the new playlist! I hate when I do that! All the music was there, just not in the right order. So annoying! I did 2 miles on the track to warm up, then hopped on the treadmill and did a very quick mile using the best interval workout, hopped off and did a steady half-mile, and then finished off with a half-mile of quick “I’m being chased by a bear” intervals on the treadmill.
The song of the day was “Bulletproof,” by La Roux. I wish I could say I discovered La Roux, but this song is actually the iTunes Single of the Week. (Go. Download. Now. Free.) I don’t usually buy entire albums on a whim, but this one is so amazing. “Bulletproof” and “I’m Not Your Toy” are my two current favorites, but the whole album just rocks my world.
As my friend Jordan says, “That song is my shit.” I can’t even deal. I wish I could have a montage some important period of my life set to this song. Ahhhh!
After the run, I stretched for 15 minutes. It took me a little while to get cooled down, but the stretching felt really good when I did. And then I bounced! I don’t feel like I’ve been at the gym for that short of a session in a while, and I must say, it was lovely.
I got home and chowed a slice of whole wheat bread with a little PB and honey before getting in the shower. All I wanted to do was shower, because all I really wanted to do was get warm, dry, and put on my coziest clothes and get comfy with my new books!!
First, though, I had to make some dinner. On tonight’s menu: Sloppy Joes made with ground turkey, broccoli, and sweet potatoes! This is a fast dinner! Ten minutes.

I haven’t had Sloppy Joes in a while. When I first learned to cook, the only thing I could cook was ground beef, so I had them a lot. I’m glad they made a little guest appearance tonight! I forgot how good they are.
It was perfect. Now I’m just getting an article done and then getting in bed with my new books and calling it a good night!
Also, if you haven’t entered the fall giveaway yet today, be sure you do so! You can enter all four ways every day until Friday!
And don’t forget to stop by Divine Caroline if you haven’t yet!
