Well, goood morning!
I hope you had a great theme week. My week flew by, and I didn’t have time to post any workout recaps. But lest you think I’ve abandoned the gym and all my goals, here’s what I’ve been up to this week!
Sunday: The Detroit Zoo Race, brunch in Royal Oak, and the most satisfying Panera experience I’ve had in quite some time. Dear Broccoli Cheddar Soup…I love you.
Monday: OFF, per usual.
Tuesday: Tuesday was supposed to be an 8-mile outdoor run. After not getting enough sleep Monday night and after spending too much time planning my future (and, um, reading blogs) Tuesday morning, I didn’t get dressed to run until nearly 11 AM. The humidity was insane. I was already in need of a shower, and one step outside in that sweatbox was too much. So I went in the house, took a nice shower, did my hair, and decided to re-arrange my schedule to do the long run the next day. Then I got a ton of energy and decided I could go to the gym and run. But what a waste of a shower and a good hair day! (Honestly, if working out didn’t involve sweat, I’d work out three times a day.) So, all fresh and clean, I went off to the gym to do three miles…but, ya know, good hair days make me feel powerful and I ended up running four miles on the track and then two miles with hills on the treadmill! I don’t know where the six came from, but it was exciting! I decided since I was kind of blowing when it came to balancing workout time with studying, I’d just run six miles again on Thursday and do a shorter run with strength training on Friday. I’d still be able to hit all four days, and the scheduled mileage for the week! (Provided I stayed motivated.)
Wednesday: My second rest day of the week, per usual! I wrote an article for Tech Coquette, studied, and gnashed my teeth. I Googled “how to divide decimals.” I really appreciate my calculator now. The good thing was I had a friend date Wednesday night! Dinner at Panera Bread and then the new fall TV line-up. I don’t eat in restaurants often, so hitting Panera twice in one week was unusual for me, but a good kind of unusual! I got the creamy tomato soup because it was labeled “V” — I thought that meant “vegan,” meaning it was dairy-free. It actually means “vegetarian” — which means I had a horrible stomachache later, because it’s made with milk. Luckily, the TV line-up was a good distraction! My hit-and-quit attitude generally applies to all aspects of my life, including TV, so I like shows like “SVU” which is like a TV booty call. There when ya need it, always good, and you don’t have to watch it again until you feel like it. However….I am committing this season to “Modern Family” and “Eastwick.” I love when I can get into a show from the first episode and both these were great! Hulu or download this weekend if you didn’t watch. “Modern Family” elicited many LOLs and “Eastwick” is creepy, sexy, funny, and empowering. Perfect Hump Day prime time!
Thursday: I’m worried I’m slowly losing my morning-persona. I haven’t been sleeping well and as a result am having trouble starting my days. Two months ago, I was in the gym at 9 AM daily. Now I can’t even get through my blog routine by the time “The View” comes on. I am hoping it’s just pre-exam anxiety and things settle down next week. I wanted to be out doing my 6-mile run, but somehow spent two hours booking a flight (NYC and DC friends, let’s plan a meet up for November!!), paying bills (ugh…depressing), reading “Cooking Light” magazine, and watching “The Biggest Loser” season premier On Demand. That does not equal a productive morning! Once again, I was avoiding both studying and running! I really wanted to go to Target to get the new Mika cd. I decided that would be my motivation to go run because I’ve wanted to go to Targ all week….and then I got to Target and realized I forgot my gift card! How. Annoying.
I headed back across town, thoroughly frustrated, with many other errands and tasks on my mind. I went to the grocery store. I had wanted to run outside, but now I felt like it was too hot. Again…excuses. When I got to the gym, I realized it wasn’t that hot, and yeah, I could go run on the treadmill, but I need to run outside regularly, and I had a moment of, “When? When when when?” I didn’t want to, but I decided to run on the trails surrounding Genesys. I couldn’t deal with figuring out the mileage, so I decided to run for time, not distance. Thirty minutes minimum. Forty was the goal. Fifty if I got ambitious.
I started running, and right away, it was so different than any runs I’ve had lately. First, my body needed that. The ground just felt good –harder, but better– to my body. I never run on the trails and, well, wow. Why have I been circling on the indoor track when there were these gorgeous, shady woods right next to my gym?! It’s September! It’s my favorite season! The leaves crunch under your feet, your footsteps thud when you hit the bridges, there are critters, there’s fresh air. It was just so wonderful. I ended up running for 60 minutes, and I was thrilled, considering I didn’t want to do it at all, and I was dealing with wind and hills. I doubled my expectations and that alone was an amazing feeling.
After the great run, I checked my Blackberry and found out that Lemondrop had posted about Shedding It! It was so exciting. (I love Lemondrop! Even my mom reads it!). It’s just so flattering, and such a great thing to see after that run! All I wanted to do was race home, but I stopped for a 1-liter bottle of Smart Water. (Which is um, smart advertising! I never buy Smart Water, but I felt all glowy and happy, and saw the bottle, remembered Jennifer Aniston reps it, and totally bought it for that reason alone.)
Friday: well, we’ll see how today goes…yesterday was great, so I’m tempted to do another run and skip strength training….but that would interfere with my goal, so I can’t! I would just rather run, but a girl’s gotta do push-ups too! I’m so relieved that the change of scenery is making me want to run more. The plan for today is eat (we have no coffee, no English muffins, and no oatmeal…umm…hmmm), hit the books, and then hit the gym post-lunch. No gym until I study the important stuff! Just a few days left and I feel totally unprepared, super confident, and completely burned out, depending on the time of day. But the deal is if I study and go to the gym, I can go back to Target and use my gift card for the Mika album!
I can’t wait until this week is over so I can get back on a normal schedule, set new goals, start new projects, and totally have the time to appreciate everything that October will bring!
Have a great Friday!
