Good morning! Happy Friday!!
It’s almost the weekend, and I have one small request for you! Get your Post-It notes (I know you have some; what girl doesn’t love Post-Its?!) and write anonymous messages to total strangers. Yep. That’s it. Just your little friendly reminder that WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!
That’s the idea behind Operation Beautiful, a sort of feel-good, body-love Post Secret project. It’s so simple and so cool. Write a little note. Stick it. If you’ve got a camera phone handy, photo it and upload it! Please check out the Operation Beautiful Web site for a visual; it explains it so much better than I ever could…and it will make you feel warm, fuzzy, and inspired all day.
The project was started by a 25-year-old woman named Caitlin who writes the blog Healthy Tipping Point. Her mission? “Ending Fat Talk. If my little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic fat talk is — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I want to reach as many people as possible with my End the Fat Talk message.” You can read more about ending Fat Talk on her blog here, and while you’re at it, watch this amazing video (it comes from Tri-Delt sorority).
So powerful! My favorite line is “It’s time to focus on the healthy ideal, which looks different for every woman, and focuses on health, not weight or size.”
You should also check out Letters to My Body, a Web site in which women can send anonymous letters to their bodies. The mission: “The hope is that through an anonymous vessel such as a letter, we can begin to heal the wounds that have been cultivated over our lifetimes, and also to praise our bodies and recognize that they are beautiful–no matter what shape, size, or condition.” There aren’t a ton of posts yet, so maybe this weekend is a good time to write a note to yourself (let’s try to stick with the “hope,” “love,” and “revelation,” categories) and send it off!
When writing about health, fitness, and weight, I always worry that I’m part of the problem and not part of the solution. I’ve written about it in detail here, but to reiterate: I don’t care if you’re “fat” or “skinny.” I just want to inspire you to treat your body well.
So this weekend when you’re out and about, stick a note up in the bathroom somewhere. Leave one on all your co-workers’ desks before you leave the office tonight. Put them in random lockers at the gym. Stick them on boxes of Slim-Fast at the store. Put a stamp on one and mail it off to your best friend. Or put one on your own mirror to remind you that, as Caitlin says, “You are enough…just the way you are!”
I am telling you right now, you are pretty. And worthy. Now please go tell someone else the same thing.
Have a great day!

Tri Delt is the place to be! Cammie is awesome (as is evidenced through her letters to Corp Board back in the day)!!
Thank you so much for the link love on this post! For some reason I didn’t see the incoming linky, so I didn’t know you linked me until I saw a few hits from your site to mine.
The site has only been up and running (officially) for a little over a week, and there are some really great letters on there. Yesterday I featured a video letter that is so adorable!
Thanks again for helping to spread the word. We are all beautiful, and there are not enough people spreading the love. You’re defintely doing your part! =)
