Lemme Work It: 9/4/09

Good afternoon! It’s almost the three-day weekend!!

This morning I got up with full intentions of being in the gym by 10 AM. I had my standard chocolate banana smoothie/English muffin/PB breakfast. And then…the Internet got in the way. Per usual.

I finally got there at 11:30. It was so deserted–I think everyone is starting their weekends early! Today was strength training, which I was looking forward to. I was pretty sore last night after my speedwork, but luckily I felt much better today. I did a one-mile warm up, and then my strength routine. Because it was getting late, I just wanted to get it over with. I was so ready to celebrate when I finished the last triceps kickback. Then I hopped back on the treadmill and ran a half mile before finishing up with 15 minutes on the elliptical. Since I’ve been running so much, I haven’t used the elliptical in a while, and it was kind of like, Oh, hey you! Welcome back! I cranked up the resistance and incline and ending up having a really nice little session. Definitely good to mix up the routine like that.

I got home at 1:45 and was getting to the point of HANGRY. I was really ready for our family BBQ lunch, which was supposed to happen at 2:00. And…my mom wasn’t home with the food yet. Of course she wasn’t. At 2:45, with lunch nowhere near done, and the realization that the burgers my mom had bought contained 32 grams of fat and everything else on the menu contained mayo, high-fructose corn syrup, or butter, I took matters into my own hands. I grilled one of my organic beef burgers and had it with cheese, lettuce, onion, and tomato. I also had some popped chips from TJ’s and pickles.

Once the much-needed calories hit my lips, the hangriness started to subside. I haven’t had a cheeseburger in a while, so this was a good change of pace. By the time I made my lovely fruit salad for dessert (nectarine, grapes, strawberries), the rest of the family was just getting into the 2,000 calorie lunch. (Not an exaggeration by any means. Probably low-balled it, judging from the store bought cupcakes–which are not only loaded in HFCS and trans fats, but also, as an ardent home baker, I’m offended.)

It was 3:15. Glad I made my own lunch.
