Let’s Go Halfsies: 9/3/09

Good evening! Happy Thursday night!!

I have stayed up way too late the past two nights, so I was really happy I was able to sleep a little later today. I felt so much better when I woke up at 9 AM instead of 7:30. Today was a rather productive day. I was glued to my laptop all morning, writing and working. When I finally realized I need to break for lunch, it was 2:00. I was so hungry. I made a bowl with a rainbow of peppers, including a light green variety I’ve never seen before, a chipotle chicken skewer, black beans, red bean dip, tomatoes, and salsa.

Definitely good stuff! I also had a fruit salad: green apple, blueberries, and strawberries. Then I did more work, until I finally dragged myself away because it was time for the gym. At that point, I just needed to get out of the house and MOVE. Today I had the option: a half-marathon training day OR cross training/strength training. Because it was getting late, I decided to go with the half-marathon training. Today was a speed workout! Instead of doing the one on my program, I did a workout that was similar but more exciting. It was recommended by Melissa on her blog Fitness NYC, and I thought I’d give it a shot. You warm up for 10 minutes, and then do one mile fast followed by six minutes of recovery–you repeat that part three times. So basically, three miles at the fastest pace you can sustain plus about two of warm-up/recovery. It’s not a sprint, but it’s definitely meant to make you move.

So off I went! I did my warm up and then just started hauling ass. My speed has really suffered after I got hurt and stopping running for so long, so it’s disappointing that I can’t run nearly as fast as I used to be able to. Speedwork just makes me kind of depressed now. But oh well; the only way to get faster is to keep doing it, right? The run was tough, but good! Afterward I stretched out to Yoga for Runners.

I zipped over to the library to pick up “Tribes,” which my friend Tracy recommended to me the other night! I am so excited to read that, and also glad I didn’t have to pay for it. Free books!! Then I got home and started dinner. Tonight’s menu: pan-seared chicken breasts, couscous, and roasted red pepper, zucchini, and squash. I have to say, I like pan-searing much better than grilling. I’ve been doing it this week since our grill is out of gas and it tastes a whole lot better! I’m definitely cooking with this method more often.

I have been seriously in the mood for chickpeas all week and haven’t eaten anything that made sense with them, so tonight, I had to have them. I made a bowl with the couscous, chicken, and veggies, and then added a nice helping of chickpeas. And I was in the mood for something fresh, so I had a green salad with tomatoes, onions, and green pepper, and balsamic and olive oil.

Fab!

Tomorrow’s workout is cross training and strength training, which will be a nice change. I am definitely going to the gym first thing. I just hate going later in the day! The morning will work because we’re having a family BBQ for Labor Day…and maybe my crush will be there!!

Have a great night!
