Goood morning! Happy Monday!
Well, I’m off on my white water rafting trip, but I had to take this Monday morning to share some very exciting news.
I’ve decided to run the Detroit half-marathon in October!!
My New Year’s resolution was to train for something, and, as most of you know, I got injured training for the Boston Memorial Day half marathon. But after lots of physical therapy and strength training, I think I am strong enough to start again. I chose a way easier training program this time, and I’m going to be a lot more careful this time. (Last time the schedule was hard, and I made it harder because I’m an idiot.) I am going to be diligent about stretching, cross training, and strength training as well.
I also registered for the Crim in Flint in August. I am just doing the 8K, but it fits nicely into my half training program, so that will work out. I was debating doing it, but ultimately I decided it was a good idea to be a part of something that supports Flint and being healthy! The Crim Festival of Races is a huge event–people come from all over the world–and a major Flint tradition, so that will be fun to be a part of!
It’s so nice to have a goal again and be focused on something like this. Training for a race makes you stop focusing on “working out” and stop worrying about losing weight–suddenly, the pride in what your body can do just takes over, and the anxiety over how your body looks fades away.
Any MI friends want to run either of these races with me?? Let me know, I’d love to have a buddy.
This has given me a great feeling of positivity and focus in my life! (And…I told you August and October would be big months.) I’m looking forward to reporting on everything here!!
Have a great day!
