Heyyyooohhh!
Hope your Monday is chugging along quite nicely! It feels like much later to me since I feel like I’ve been up since the crack of dawn.
Last night I met my childhood friend, Heather, for coffee. We’ve known each other since third grade and have been through grade school, middle school, the awkward years (and oh, there were many), high school, and college together. And the fact that we did go through the awkward years together just provides a deep level of trust that I love so much. We don’t see each other very often, but when we get together for Starbucks on trips home, it’s generally a marathon event and we just talk for hours. It’s just funny because through college we didn’t talk regularly but we never have a problem picking up where we left off.
So that was last night! I wanted to go to bed early, but talking about boys and bodies with my friend was wayyy more important! We shut Starbucks down, then moved to the patio, then stood in front of our cars talking for another 40 minutes. And when I got home I couldn’t fall asleep until almost 2:00. Then I woke up at 5:00 and noticed my ipod was dying, so went about the business of turning on my computer and plugging it in. Even though I had planned to go at 9:00 to spin, I figured I wouldn’t want to go to until later this morning, when I’d just do regular cardio. But I woke up with tons of energy at 7:30, so I went! I drank a banana smoothie in the car on my way.
My mom came with me, which made me so happy. I really wish everyone I care about would make time for physical activity, so having her suggest that we go together was thrilling. Even though I was there in time for spinning, I was hesitant because, not gonna lie, I was prejudiced toward my new teacher.
Lately, all my instructors have been pasty old white men, and their classes have been disappointing. “Larry” and “Bob” have both been huge disappointments. This was 60 minutes of spinning with “Harry.” I was worried it was going to be all lame climbing, no jumps, no sprinting, and a geriatric workout all around. The only reason I went is because I didn’t have headphones to do my own thing on the machines. But I whined the whole way there.
As soon as Harry came in, I was proven wrong! He was browner than I am and looks like Burt Reynolds. He was super fit with a racing shirt and a large gold cross necklace. He looked like a swinger. Lady Gaga was blasting. Perfection! I put my bike front and center and away we went!
It was such an amazing class! I was seriously smiling the whole time because he was doing so many great sprints, climbs, jumps, and he had really good music. He learns everyone’s names and makes it really fun. I can’t wait to go every Monday. I also am 90 percent sure he’s gay, which just proves my theory: gay men make the best instructors!
An hour later, when the class ended, all I could think was, “Well…I should probably eat some extra carbs today.” Sixty minutes is intense! I felt pretty worn out. But I was in such a good mood the entire way home, I was just rocking out to Justin Timberlake and that “Don’t trust a ho” song.
I went home to strength train, but I knew I couldn’t handle any legs at that point. I did abs and upper body, but I still struggled; it might be better if I wake up earlier and do them before class. I am going to have to alter the routine slightly anyway and do legs Sunday and Tuesday. I stretched out during “The View” because my hip seemed a bit annoyed with me.
Lunch couldn’t come soon enough!! Like I said yesterday, I need to mix it up, so I made barbecued grilled chicken and put it on a sandwich thin; I had it with a baked sweet potato for some extra carbies, and some cucumbers and a pickle.

It was yummy! I forgot how much I love sweet potatoes. I finished up with some sliced green apple and a really perfect plum.

I have much to do this afternoon! I want to get back into studying, but first I have to work on this freelance project I picked up to help furnish my rock star lifestyle. I have to work on it every day for the next two weeks. Annoying! “Entourage” is calling my name so I hope it doesn’t take me too long.
Have a great afternoon!!
