Lemme Work It: 7/5/09

Good evening!

It looks like the holiday weekend is winding down! I hope you had a lot of lovely time to relax and enjoy yourself.

This weekend was extremely uneventful. Even with the holiday yesterday, our neighborhood was very quiet and it didn’t seem like a festive day! I spent the whole day reading in my massive PT textbook (self-taught applied kineseology! woop woop!) and hung out with my fam. In a totally un-American way, I made fajitas for dinner.

After my day of studying, I really felt the need to move my ass last night, so I called a friend and went for an hour-long walk while we chatted. The fresh air and activity was nice!!

After that, I accidentally embarked on the Most Depressing Night of TV Ever. Gotta love OnDemand! First up it was Farrah Fawcett’s biography, which was good–classier than the E! True Hollywood story, but hits all the good points. My mom wandered in at that point and watched Farrah with me, as well as an episode of “Intervention.” Since my mom is Debbie Downer, this seemed right up her alley! It was a good episode–it wasn’t as ridiculous (read: funny and entertaining) as some others; it was just really quite sad, but luckily, the guy was getting help. After that upper, we moved on to “16 and Pregnant.” Now, I assumed this show would be more funny and entertaining because I’m used to that kind of reality TV. You know, showing the girls having meltdowns as their babies cried. I thought it would be like “Made,” but when screeching, “You can’t make me be someone I’m not!!!” they’d be referring to motherhood, not a hip hop dancer.

But I was surprised! This show is really, really good. Aside from the one couple who got engaged with a $21 ring (after the little hubs spent $500 on a Playstation), I really felt for these kids. I didn’t know anyone who got pregnant growing up, so I honestly don’t know what it’s like for these girls. It was sad, interesting, gross (sorry, I don’t have the birthing gene yet) moving…we’ve been watching every single episode. I can’t get enough!

I seriously stayed up until 1:00 in the morning watching it last night, so I had to sleep in today! But after some oatmeal with yogurt, Naturally More PB, and a nectarine, it was off to the gym! I did 45 minutes of cardio, and I hopped off the machines a few times to run drills on the gym floor. I definitely need to do that more often. It just makes your heart race and it feels so good.

After that, I made another Mexican-inspired bowl for lunch. I really need some new meal ideas, because while I love what I’ve been eating, I get really bad about getting stuck on the same foods for weeks at a time and then never eating them again. I need some variety!

After lunch, I indulged in the new US Weekly because I really wanted to see Kendra’s wedding pics. It was so nice out and I read in the sun and enjoyed every second of it! Such a guilty pleasure.

My aunt and uncle came over tonight with the cousins and we had quite a 5th of July bash!!! We made burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and had a million kinds of mayo-layden “salads” (my family is…not like me, and will never change). I was going to grill chicken, but the burgers looked yummy, so I had one with lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, and ketchup, but I skipped the bun. I had some TJ’s popped chipps and corn on the cob with it, and was actually really full before I even finished the chips! Everyone else dove headfirst into the carton of ice cream (sometimes, I’m seriously amazed by how my family eats) but I really wasn’t tempted. Still, it was nice to enjoy some old-fashioned BBQ fare, but I’m glad I kept it light! The kiddies were being extremely loud tonight and were like dripping ice cream everywhere, so I finally had to flee, because my patience was wearing thin. Weird to think that if I had been “16 and pregnant” I’d have an eight year old right now! Oh wait, no one wanted to have sex with me when I was 16. Well….phew!

I am in the mood for one of those summer nights spent enjoying the AC and relaxing, so I am off to rent Season 5 of “Entourage” and bliss out. I love that show.

Have a great Sunday night!!
