With so many gorgeous fruits in season right now, it’s a crime to not have fruit every day. But if you’ve just been sticking to one variety or just cutting a banana and strawberries in a bowl and calling it “salad,” it might be time to step it up a notch. Experimenting with new fruit salad combos is a great way to keep your sides fresh and your lunch from getting boring.
To make a great fruit salad any day of the week, keep some basics on hand: mint, lime juice, yogurt, and honey. And don’t get too caught up on what kind of fruit you use; you really can’t go wrong. Swapping blueberries for blackberries isn’t a disaster like baking soda for baking powder.
Here are some of my favorite picks from around the Web.
Melon With Basil-Lime Granita This is a way to use two of summer’s best fresh herbs to create a simple dressing.
Fruit Salad with Poppy Seed Dressing Contains nuts for a little protein kick!
Fruit Salad with Honey-Yogurt Dressing This comes from my favorite girl Sunny on The Food Network; it includes grilled fruit and Greek yogurt. Yes please!
Mexican Pineapple Salad Who told you to put all my favorite ingredients in one dish?!
Fruit Salad with Ginger Syrup I can’t wait to try this to cool off after a spicy stir-fry!
Ambrosia Fruit Salad This salad has enough vanilla yogurt, marshmallows, and coconut to make it very creamy and dreamy, but not fattening.
Stone Fruit Salad with Toasted Almonds This seemed complicated when I saw the picture, but it’s actually totally simple! (For some reason, cooking with wine always makes me feel like I’m doing serious cooking.) Paired with some grilled chicken, this is a complete meal.
I love how all these recipes contain such basic ingredients! You don’t have to scour obscure markets to find anything, and even though they are simple, they’ll make you seem like a superchef. There’s no better way to get your five a day!
