Lemme Work It: 7/1/09

Happy July!!!

It doesn’t feel very July here. It rained again today. I can’t believe only a week ago it was sunny and warm. I hope the sun comes back soon–Michigan has had a tough year, and I’d hate to see such a good Michigan holiday (with all the beaches we have) ruined by rain.

Anyway, I was up early (if not bright) because I had to get my hair did! I started my day off with a peach smoothie and then was off to the salon. I’m not one of those people who “loves” going to the salon, because, honestly, my hair is so massive, straightening it is no picnic. I’ve been going every six to eight weeks since I was a little girl, when I’d cry in the chair (true story) because the chemicals were so strong. Now I can handle it, and I love my hairdresser and the opportunity to read trashy magazinesm but ranks pretty low on my list of “favorite things to do.” Oh well–my hair would seriously be a ridiculous mushroom cloud otherwise. It’s so big and…full of secrets.

I was there for a full three hours today so I got home and was pretty hungry. I went with a grilled chicken salad for lunch with peppers, chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, cucmbers, balsamic vinegar, and flax seed oil. I also had a slice of sprouted grain bread for a little carb action.

I spent the afternoon being depressed about my ipod and debating whether I should put off some other purchases I wanted to make (like the pricey online program to go with my personal training manuals) in order to have the ipod sooner. Eventually I decided I’d rather go without the additional PT materials because another two weeks without an ipod sounded like two weeks Satan would have to take off my time in hell.

Since I didn’t get the PT stuff, I made a new deal with myself: I have to match my workout time with my studying time. So if I do 45 minutes of cardio, I have to study/read for 45 minutes. I know I’ll force myself to get through the book faster that way. I was browsing fitness-related jobs today online and I’m dying to be certified so I can get out there!!!

I hate days when I work out in the evening, but the Spinning instructor I liked wasn’t teaching until 6:30 so I didn’t have much of a choice. But I feel like I always waste a day when I wait to work out.

I had a hearty smoothie before I left the house because I knew I wouldn’t eat until late. I mixed up yogurt, frozen strawbs, protein powder, and almond butter. This combo is particularly thick, so I knew it would keep me full. And I prepared black bean burgers for dinner so I could stuff my face the second I got home from the gym.

Then it was off to my favorite store–TARGET! This week Targ had a special deal where you got a $25 gift card when you buy the ipod touch. Ca-ching! (They also have a site set up where you can recycle your old electronics for Targ gift cards. Love this!!!) It was pouring which made the trip sort of disappointing, but I got the goods. I immediately used the gift card to buy a sport case for my new baby, so it doesn’t fly off the machines again. I also bought a new running skirt because they are on sale for $14. (Why do you go into Target for just one thing and walk out $50 in debt?! It’s like impossible to do otherwise.)

I went straight to Spinning. It was a small class–there were just six of us! It was 60 minutes and all climbing, which I don’t like, but instructors are really into. Come on people! Let’s sprint it out once in a while!

By the time I got home, I was ready for some serious black bean action. I made a bowl with lettuce, tomato, salsa, and red onions, and sliced a red pepper and a yellow pepper on the side.

6:30 PM is NOT a good time for an hour-long class! Sorry, Genesys, but my food schedule does not work out with this time. Next week I can go at 9 AM instead, since I won’t be sitting under a blow dryer.

The burger was yummy! I finished off with a massive bowl of fruit (green apple, strawbs, and some orange slices). Delish!

I can’t believe it’s already 9:00 already. Damn evening workouts! I am off now to do a highly important thing called playing with my new toy!! I cannot wait to explore all the apps for my new baby. I didn’t even know this thing had apps until yesterday. I am most excited for the iTreadmill…eeee!

Have a good night!
