Lemme Work It: 6/15/09

Can you believe June is already half over!? How does that happen??

It’s another gorgeous day here. I got up at 7:30–I’m starting to think my 7 AM wake-up goal may not be necessary or worth it–and had breakfast outside. I haven’t had eggs in a while so I decided to go with those. I wanted them with the yolks still runny, but this is a cooking technique that does not come naturally to me just yet. My mom is great at flipping them perfectly, but unfortunately, my yolks broke. It was still a good breakfast but I was disappointed. I had the eggs with a slice of sprouted grain toast with flax oil and a fruit salad.

After that I made Preston breakfast, inspired by a picture I saw on Kath Eats Real Food. It’s just mini waffles topped with peanut butter and bananas or strawberries.

How cute is that? It might make a nice breakfast for an adult actually. We are working on getting him to eat healthier, so I was proud of him for eating this and drinking a glass of white milk with it.

After that, it was time for our morning walk! We went for 45 minutes with the jogging stroller, but I didn’t run at all today, since I am trying to cut back and save myself from further physical therapy sessions! I still felt like I got a nice workout. After that I came home and did 30 Day Shred. I used the heavier weights and it was a much better session. I was totally drenched by the end.

Now it’s time forĀ  a shower and lunch and then Preston and I are going on a fabulous date–to the Detroit Zoo! It’s his first trip to the zoo and we’re both so excited! I loved the zoo when I was a kid. I grew up in Chicago and my mom took me to Lincoln Park Zoo, which is a great one. I have so many good memories from that zoo. My favorite thing to see were the polar bears, but now my favorite are the lions. They have really big hair and alternate between being lazy and kicking ass. I identify with that. I’m a leo–what can I say? I love watching them on Animal Planet, especially the females and their cubs. They’re so fierce.

What’s your favorite zoo animal?

There is a secret to eggs over easy…no flipping necessary. Just cook the eggs on medium heat and keep them covered. Check them periodically until they’re all cooked and have a thin layer of white over the yolks! My roommate Kelly taught me this trick sophomore year of college- I am forever indebted!

That’s brilliant! Can’t wait to try this!
