Lemme Work It: 6/14/09

It’s a beautiful Sunday!

Yesterday I didn’t work out, just enjoyed an “off” day. It rained all day, so it was just as well. I made stuffed peppers for my family for dinner, and the sun actually came out, so my mom and I went for a nice walk after dinner. I read recently that Rosario Dawson walks after dinner to curb a craving for desserts and just for enjoyment, and she looks great, so I’ll take all her tips I can!

Today it was back to working out! I started off the day with some oatmeal, yogurt, and berries. It was seriously beautiful so I went for my run/walk at 10. I thought it would be dewy and early-morning-cool but it was seriously hot! I worked up quite a sweat and got a little tan while I was out. I planned to come back and do the 30 Day Shred, but I realized I returned the lighter weights and forgot to buy heavier ones! No strength training just yet…oh well.

It was just as well because I didn’t really have time. I had a picnic planned with an old friend!! It couldn’t have been a more perfect day for this. I packed grilled chicken and peanutty broccoli salad, and she brought a yummy fruit salad and bottled water. The friend I was meeting is someone I’ve known since high school and this Christmas, while on break from medical school, was diagnosed with cancer. She spent the winter and spring going through chemo, but she’s a fighter and is healthy again! But she’s a reminder to me that our bodies aren’t just tools to treat poorly and speak poorly of. As much as we may dislike certain things, it’s the only one we’ve got! I’m so glad I can spend more time with her now! We spent more than an hour in the park, getting some sunshine and talking about our lives, the future, and boys. After our lunch, we went to see “The Hangover.” It was so, so funny, and Bradley Cooper is beyond sexy (although the groom is totally more my type), which is a nice treat.

After that I came home to make homemade pizza for dinner! I have been wanting to do this for a while, so today seemed as good as any. I got the dough recipe from Eat, Live, Run and have been dying to try it. I thought it made one pizza because I didn’t read it carefully, and because my uncle and cousins were coming over, I doubled the recipe. Of course, once I had put in twice all the ingredients I saw that it made two large pizza crusts! And, of course, dough expands.

I had time to pick up my new weights today, so after dinner I am going to try to do a walk and then 30 Day Shred. I’m feeling lazy, not gonna lie, but hopefully Jillian can get me going again! Off to finish the pizza now. I’m a little nervous to lift the dish towel…there might be a crust monster rising!
