One great way to improve your healthy cooking skills is to add fresh herbs. Fresh herbs impart deep, amazing flavor into an ordinary dish and add excitement to boring menus. Herbs also have many heath benefits and can help your system detox. But if you are on a budget, you may avoid buying them because they can go bad if you don’t use them quickly.
My advice is to buy one bunch of fresh herbs each week (or trip to the grocery store), and use it in several different recipes. A few weeks ago, I bought fresh cilantro. I used it to make fresh salsa, in salad, and combined with cumin to season turkey burgers. I also tried mint; I mixed it with lime juice to perk up grapefruit, and in a Moroccan chicken recipe that paired it with curry powder, cayenne, cinnamon, and coriander.
If you aren’t sure which herbs to buy, here are some more suggestions: parsley, oregano, rosemarey, dill, thyme, and chives. And if you buy one, and have no idea what to do next, Google it! A search for “chives egg recipes” or “chives chicken recipes” will give you a great starting point and give you an idea of what other flavors the herb pairs with best.
This week I’m switching to basil, which to me, just smells like summer!
