Learning to make a great salad is an easy way to become a healthier eater. I take the “everything but the kitchen sink” approach to eating salads, and make fabulous creations involving lots of colorful veggies, beans, delicious dressing, and lean protein. But the problem with my salads is that all that produce can be pretty messy to fit in my mouth. I love ordering salads in NYC when you have the option to get them chopped. Basically, everything you put in the salad is crunched down to below-bite sized. As someone who is constantly trying to cut through huge romaine leaves and chunks of red pepper, and usually ends up getting lettuce on the table and salad dressing on my dress, chopped salads are a great thing.
But the fact is, I rarely order salads, because it’s a million dollars cheaper (and usually healtheir) to make them at home. So thank goodness I found a home salad chopper!!!!!
The day I purchased this amazing creation from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I was like beside myself with happiness. Thirty “tossed salad” double entendres later, I was the proud owner of the Oxo Salad Chopper with Bowl. I could not wait to make my first salad.
I filled the large white bowl with lettuce and lazily chopped veggies. Then I went to work. The chopper looks like a double-bladed pizza cutter and you can really just hack the hell out of your greens. After pretending to be Edward Scissorhands (and letting my roommate try, because even though she mocked this purchase, she could admit that it looked fun), I had a lovely bowl of bite sized greens. At this point, I added the beans and cubed tofu, because I wanted them to remain unchopped.
I dumped the whole creation in a large plastic container and put it in the fridge for work the next day. Gone were my days of tossing my salad (oops) all over the place!
This fantastic creation is available at Bed, Bath & Beyond, as well as Amazon.com.
